The Sad Hour (ferns & figs)
The Sad Hour is what you reach for when a scent needs breath—green, cool, and quietly alive.
It doesn’t demand attention. It alters the air around everything else. A subtle shift… like opening a window in a room that’s been closed too long.
The Sad Hour
Based off an 1800s casket plate.
The Victorians often placed clocks on the coffins of the deceased, whereby the instrument’s hands were frozen at the time of passing. Time stood still at the moment of death, they believed. Supposing that the clock kept running, however, it was thought that the departed’s spirit would return to the living world as a malicious specter. Indeed, there may be such a thing as having too much time on one’s hands.
A green stillness settles in.
Cool fig leaves and damp ferns press softly against the air, grounded by moss and the faint trace of salt—like tears that have long since dried. There is a quiet here, not empty but suspended… as if time itself has chosen not to move.
Featured notes: fresh figs, ferns, moss, salty tears, lily
If a scent ever feels too heavy, too sweet, or too dense—this is your solution.
The Sad Hour softens, lifts, and adds a living green edge without overpowering.
Layer it with anything… or pair it with deeper scents like The Undertaking, Cemetery, or The Monster for contrast.
