This week’s historical dumpster fire
Ghosts Playing Musical Instruments
A weekly dose of macabre history, gently pressed into your hands like a haunted educational pamphlet.
Victorian seances were not always quiet affairs.
Apparently, the dead had hobbies.
Seances could feature mysterious bells, horns, guitars, and accordions that supposedly played without anyone touching them.
One famous medium, Daniel Dunglas Home, became known for an accordion that appeared to play under seemingly impossible conditions.
Scientist William Crookes even conducted experiments with the instrument inside a wire cage beneath a table and reported hearing it play while Home held it away from the keys.
The 1870s were having a wonderful time.
The Davenport Brothers also featured bells, horns, and other instruments in their spirit-cabinet performances.
Apparently eternal rest gets boring eventually.
Seance scent pairing
This one belongs to The Phantom — for those who prefer their mysterious music accompanied by a masked man lurking somewhere in the architecture.
Please note: none of this was written by robots aka AI. It came from the dark folds of Lacey’s very human mind.
