The Hedge Witch - Embalming Lotion Oil (sweet tobacco & herbs)
Scent type · Herbal & Spicy
Sweet pipe tobacco, herbs, and spice. Laudanum, leather, old wood.
Made for Every Body. Fragrance doesn’t care about your gender.
The Hedge Witch is not meant for everyone, and that’s precisely the point. This is the scent of knowledge passed quietly between hands. Of remedies that work… and consequences that follow. Dark, herbal, and complex.
Notes: pipe tobacco, herbs, spices, woods, laudanum, leather
What Is an Embalming Oil?
Despite the name, our Embalming Oil is for the living. It’s a concentrated, super-hydrating lotion oil for body, hair, and bath, made with nourishing oils and free of parabens, palm oil, and harsh chemicals. Unlike heavy creams that sit on the surface, it sinks in within minutes, leaving skin soft, scented, and suspiciously well-preserved.
Perfume Oil vs. Embalming Oil
Same fragrance, mixed from the same master batch. Different job.
Perfume Oil — 10ml roller. Concentrated scent for pulse points. Your everyday perfume.
Embalming Oil — 4oz dropper. That same scent in a hydrating oil for body and hair.
Wear either. Wear both. The embalming oil layered underneath makes the perfume last longer.
Want to smell it first? We don’t make Embalming Oil samples, but because both come from the same master batch, the perfume oil sample smells exactly like this one. Try it in a sample pack.
How to Use
A little goes a long way.
Hair oil / hair perfume: warm a small amount and smooth through mid-length to ends.
Body: start small and build. A few drops on damp skin, sinks in dry.
Bath: a capful under running water.
Pulse points: if you please.
The Story
A scent for those who know what belladonna does, and how much is too much. Imagine an old apothecary, wood shelves and bottles filled with herbs. Dried flowers and plants hang from the ceilings all strung out with purpose.
In the Victorian era, the hedge witch was a figure lingering at the edges, both literally and socially. These women, often poor and rural, practiced folk herbalism, midwifery, and traditional healing passed down orally for generations. The name “hedge witch” comes from their liminal position: living near the hedgerows that marked the boundary between village and wilderness, safety and superstition.
Though the age of Enlightenment had ushered in science and medicine, rural communities still turned to hedge witches for remedies, charms, and sometimes quiet curses. They were both respected and feared: consulted in secret, blamed in public. Victorian society, with its obsession for order and propriety, often viewed these women with suspicion, associating their knowledge of herbs, intuition, and cycles of nature with witchcraft and the occult.
To many, the hedge witch embodied the last breath of pre-Christian, earth-based knowledge in a rapidly industrializing world: part healer, part outcast, always one foot in the otherworld.
This is The Hedge Witch.
