Long after the fields were cleared and the last lanterns were lit, something was said to remain behind. Perched above the autumn harvest, the Watcher kept silent company with travelers foolish enough to wander after dark.

Owls have long carried associations with night, death, and prophecy. Pumpkins, meanwhile, became lanterns meant to frighten away whatever might be roaming outside.

Apparently, no one considered what might decide to sit on one.
